In order to get focused you have to clear out all the garbage from the past experiences. It makes no sense to use mental training bandaids until your mind is clear and prepared for new information. Cramming junk in will only be spit out by your mental computer when the space is totally full of negativity. New information can only be accepted when there is space to receive it.
The mind is a receptacle and when it is full it will reject all new information. The Pro Mind program is all about helping you dump the information that is useless and out of date and then replace it with the stuff that is positive and constructive.

Can you really 'clear out all the garbage from the past experiences'? It seems to me that this may not be completely realistic. Perhaps letting go of some experiences is more realistic. I play my best golf when all is going well in my life.
ReplyDeleteMy point is that storing frustration about mistakes, failure, losing and playing badly is completely self-defeating. Kenny Perry just lost the Masters tournament over the last few holes after flawless golf for 70 holes. He was quick to shrug it off as no big deal immediately after the tournament was over. But the real test for Kenny is to see if he can continue to release the demons over the next several weeks. I believe that letting go of the bad stuff is necessary to focus on the present and future. This process is difficult even for the best players in the world. Dealing with adversity is a crucial element of all sport because we lose more than we win. What Tiger and Angel do so well is to release and refocus after mistakes and losses. We cannot afford to carry bad memories and disappointment with us.
